Apoqnmatm Exhibition Opening
Apoqnmatm is a collaborative project between Membertou First Nation, the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History and The Counter-Memory Activism Research Group which aims to introduce colonial institutions to a different way of thinking about the beings in their care and to build a better relationship between the Mi’kmaq and the Nova Scotia Museum. Apoqnmatm translates to “I help or assist it”, which refers to Mi’kmaw curator Kayla Rudderham’s role of bringing these institutions together for an inaugural exhibition that celebrates Mi’kmaw community objects while reflecting on the museum’s past, present, and future practices.
