On Cosmopolitanism and Forgiveness
Derrida, Jacques. On Cosmopolitanism and Forgiveness. Translated by Mark Dooley and Michael Hughes. London: Routledge, 2001. Free PDF online.
This book confronts the tensions between the rights of displaced persons and the ethics of hospitality, and the difficulty of reconciliation in the face of historical trauma. In these two essays, Derrida argues that only forgiving the unforgivable constitutes true forgiveness. He also questions whether cosmopolitanism or forgiveness are still possible in the contemporary world.
